Katja Novitskova was born in Estonia in 1984 and lives and works in Amsterdam and Berlin. Novitskova researches ongoing ecological transformations of matter, social and informational processes in the present world, developing personal strategies to render its future forms. With a background in visual semiotics, graphic design and new media, her works range from digital collages to sculpture and installation, collaborative projects and artist publications.
In 2010, Novitskova released her artist book and curatorial initiative called Post Internet Survival Guide. In 2012 she had her first solo exhibition at Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler gallery in Berlin titled MACRO EXPANSION and in 2014 a second solo exhibition titled Spirit, Curiosity and Opportunity in the same gallery. Selected solo, duo and group exhibitions include: Ocean of Images at MoMA in NYC, La vie Moderne Biennale de Lyon 2015 in Lyon, Life Update at Kunsthalle Lissabon, Green Growth at project space SALTS in Birsfelden; Don’t You Know Who I Am? at M HKA in Antwerp; Speculations on Anonymous Materials at Fridericianum in Kassel; with Timur Si-Qin at CCS Bard in New York; Profit|Decay with Amalia Ulman at Arcadia Missa, London; TruEYE SurView at W139 in Amsterdam. Between 2013 and 2014 she did a two-year art residency at Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam.
